A Storage Backplane is a hardware component used in servers or enterprise storage systems to provide a connection point for multiple hard drives or solid-state drives (SSDs), allowing them to be managed and accessed by the system. A backplane usually houses the drives and provides connections for power and data transfer, while enabling them to be easily connected to the RAID controller or SATA controller on a server motherboard.

In a typical server environment, the storage backplane connects multiple drives to a central controller. It can support hot-swapping (the ability to replace drives without shutting down the system), S.M.A.R.T. monitoring, and other features for drive management and monitoring.
