The Intel(R) Serial IO I2C Host Controller - 31AE is a system driver that supports the I2C (Inter-Integrated Circuit) protocol for communication between your computer's motherboard and various low-speed peripherals or devices. I2C is commonly used for sensors, touchscreens, power management chips, and other embedded devices. This controller is part of the Intel Serial I/O (Input/Output) family, which helps manage these connections on Intel-based systems.

If you see the Intel(R) Serial IO I2C Host Controller - 31AE driver listed in your Device Manager (especially under "Other devices" or "System devices"), it usually means that the required driver for this controller is either not installed or needs to be updated.

How to Install or Update the Intel(R) Serial IO I2C Host Controller - 31AE Driver:

Option 1: Using Windows Update

  1. Open Settings by pressing Windows + I.
  2. Go to Update & Security.
  3. Click on Check for updates to ensure your system is up-to-date.
  4. Windows will automatically search for and install any available updates, including the driver for the Intel(R) Serial IO I2C Host Controller if it's available.

Option 2: Using Device Manager

  1. Right-click the Start menu button and select Device Manager.
  2. Locate the Intel(R) Serial IO I2C Host Controller - 31AE under System Devices or Other Devices.
  3. Right-click on it and select Update driver.
  4. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software. Windows will search the web and your system for the latest driver and install it automatically if available.

Option 3: Manually Downloading the Driver from Intel's Website

  1. Visit the Intel Download Center.
  2. In the search bar, type "Intel Serial IO I2C Host Controller" or the exact driver version (e.g., 31AE).
  3. Download the appropriate driver package for your system (make sure to select the correct version for your operating system).
  4. After downloading, run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.

Option 4: Using the Lenovo Support Website (for Lenovo laptops)

  1. Visit the Lenovo Support page.
  2. Enter your laptop's model number (you can find this on the bottom of your laptop or in the system information).
  3. Go to the Drivers & Software section and search for the Intel Serial IO driver.
  4. Download and install the latest version of the driver that matches your system.

Verifying Installation:

Once the driver is installed, restart your computer, and check Device Manager again to see if the yellow warning icon has disappeared. If the controller is correctly installed, it should now appear under System Devices without any issues.
