AMD High Definition Audio Device Windows Driver
The AMD High Definition Audio Device driver is software that enables audio output through HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) or DisplayPort connections on computers that use AMD graphics cards or integrated AMD processors (APUs). This driver allows your computer to send high-quality digital audio (such as surround sound) to an external display, such as a TV or monitor, that supports HDMI or DisplayPort audio.
- Purpose: The driver is used for sending both video and audio signals over HDMI or DisplayPort, which is common in gaming PCs, home theater PCs (HTPCs), or workstations with AMD graphics.
- When It's Needed: If you connect your computer to an HDMI-equipped monitor, TV, or sound system, you'll need this driver to transmit audio from the computer to the external display via HDMI.
Key Features:
- Supports high-definition audio (up to 7.1 channels) via HDMI and DisplayPort.
- Works with AMD graphics cards (Radeon and integrated graphics) and AMD APUs.
- Provides audio output to external monitors, TVs, or audio systems that support HDMI or DisplayPort.
How to Install the AMD High Definition Audio Device Windows Driver

Method 2: Download and Install Manually from AMD
If Windows does not automatically detect or update the driver, you can manually download and install it from AMD’s official website.
-
Go to the AMD website:
Visit the official AMD website at AMD Drivers and Support.
-
Find Your Product:
- If you're using an AMD graphics card, navigate to Graphics > Radeon or Radeon Pro series (depending on your GPU model).
- If you're using an AMD APU (accelerated processing unit), navigate to Processors with Graphics and select the appropriate model.
-
Download the Driver:
- Download the latest AMD Radeon Software or AMD Chipset Driver package. The High Definition Audio driver will be included in this package, along with other essential drivers for your AMD hardware.
-
Install the Driver:

-
Visit the AMD Support Page:
Navigate to AMD Driver Downloads.
-
Identify Your Graphics Card:
Select the appropriate series for your AMD graphics card (e.g., Radeon RX, Radeon R7, R9, etc.).
-
Download and Install:
Download and run the latest AMD Radeon Software package. During the installation, make sure the HD Audio driver option is selected to be installed along with the graphics driver.
-
Restart Your PC:
After the installation is complete, restart your computer.
Method 4: Use the Driver Disc (If Available)
If you have a pre-built system (such as a laptop or desktop from a manufacturer like HP, Dell, or Lenovo), the AMD High Definition Audio Device driver may have been included on a driver disc that came with your computer.
- Insert the driver disc into your optical drive (or use a USB drive if the disc is available in digital format).
- Run the setup file to install the drivers, following the on-screen instructions.
- Restart your computer after the installation is complete.
