How to Install the Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (SST) Audio Controller Driver
1. Identify Your System's Audio Hardware
- Ensure your system uses an Intel processor with Intel Smart Sound Technology. You can check this in Device Manager:
- Right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
- Look for an entry like Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) Audio Controller.
2. Download the Latest Driver
- Go to the Intel Download Center: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/.
- Search for Intel Smart Sound Technology or enter your processor model (e.g., "Intel Core i7 10th gen") to find the appropriate driver package.
- Download the latest driver for Intel SST for your operating system (Windows 10 or 11).
3. Uninstall Previous or Older Drivers (Optional)
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click the Intel SST Audio Controller under Sound, video and game controllers.
- Choose Uninstall device and check the box to delete the driver software.
- Restart your computer.
4. Install the New Driver
- Once the driver is downloaded, locate the .exe file and double-click it to start the installation.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.
- During installation, the system may prompt you to restart the computer for changes to take effect.
5. Verify Installation
- After the installation is complete and your system has restarted, check if the driver is installed correctly:
- Go back to Device Manager and ensure Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) Audio Controller appears under Sound, video and game controllers without any warning icons.
- Test the audio by playing some media or connecting an audio device (headphones, speakers) to check for sound output.
6. Troubleshoot (if needed)
- If you experience issues (no audio or poor sound quality), ensure the device is enabled in Device Manager.
- Try reinstalling the driver or running the Windows Troubleshooter for audio issues by right-clicking the speaker icon in the taskbar and selecting Troubleshoot sound problems.
