The Intel(R) PCI Express Root Port 15 - 06B6 is a device driver related to the PCI Express (PCIe) interface, which allows communication between the motherboard and peripheral components such as graphics cards, network adapters, and storage devices. Specifically, this driver corresponds to a PCIe root port, which is part of the chipset that manages the connection between the CPU and the various PCIe lanes on the motherboard.

What is it?

How to Install or Update the Driver:

  1. Automatic Installation (Windows Update)

    • Windows often installs basic drivers for hardware automatically. If you're using Windows 10 or 11, it may already have installed the necessary driver for the Intel PCI Express Root Port.
    • Steps:
      1. Open Device Manager (Right-click on Start menu and select Device Manager).
      2. Find PCI Express Root Port in the list of devices (it may appear under "System Devices").
      3. Right-click on the device and select Update driver.
      4. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software. Windows will search online for the latest driver and install it if available.
  2. Download from Intel's Website: If Windows Update doesn’t find a driver or if you want to manually install the latest one, you can download the driver from Intel's official website.

    • Go to the Intel Download Center.
    • Search for Intel Chipset Software or Intel Chipset Device Software.
    • Download and install the latest version of the chipset driver that corresponds to your specific Intel chipset and operating system.
    • The installation of the chipset software will include the PCIe root port driver along with other related drivers.
  3. Driver Installation via Intel Driver & Support Assistant: Intel provides a tool called the Intel Driver & Support Assistant that automatically detects and updates your drivers.

    • Download the Intel Driver & Support Assistant from Intel's website.
    • Run the tool, and it will scan your system for outdated or missing drivers and offer updates, including for the Intel PCI Express Root Port.
  4. Manually Install the Driver from the Driver Package: If you have the driver files from a previously downloaded chipset package, you can manually install the driver:

    • Unzip or extract the driver package.
    • Go to Device Manager, right-click on the PCI Express Root Port, and select Update driver.
    • Choose Browse my computer for drivers and point to the folder where the driver files are located.
  5. Reboot Your System: After installing or updating the driver, it's a good idea to reboot your computer to ensure that the new driver is fully applied and functioning.

Troubleshooting:

This driver is essential for the proper functioning of devices that rely on PCIe slots, so keeping it updated is important for system stability and performance.
