The Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller is a network interface controller (NIC) driver for Realtek's Ethernet adapters, typically used for wired network connections. It allows your computer to connect to a local area network (LAN) or the internet via a wired Ethernet connection. The driver enables the operating system to communicate with the network adapter and manage network traffic.
Key Features of Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller:
- PCIe interface: The controller uses the PCI Express interface to connect to the motherboard.
- Gigabit Ethernet: It supports speeds up to 1 Gbps (Gigabit) for fast data transfer over the network.
- Wired LAN support: It enables reliable wired network connectivity for desktop PCs, laptops, and motherboards with integrated Ethernet ports.
How to Install the Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller Driver:
1. Using Windows Update (Automatic Installation):
Windows often installs network drivers automatically when it detects the hardware. If the Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller is detected, Windows should either automatically install the driver or suggest it through Windows Update.
To check:
- Open Device Manager by pressing
Win + X
and selecting Device Manager.
- Find your network adapter under Network adapters.
- Right-click on Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If a newer driver is available, Windows will download and install it.
2. Manually Download and Install the Driver:
If Windows doesn't automatically find the correct driver, you can download it manually from the Realtek website or the motherboard manufacturer's support page.
-
Option 1: Download from Realtek Website
- Go to the official Realtek driver download page.
- Search for "PCIe Ethernet Controller" or go to the Network Interface Controllers (NIC) section.
- Download the driver that corresponds to your Windows version (e.g., Windows 10, Windows 11, etc.).
- Run the downloaded file to install the driver.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
- Restart your PC if prompted.
-
Option 2: Download from Your Motherboard Manufacturer's Website
If you're using an integrated Realtek Ethernet adapter on a motherboard, you can also download the driver from the motherboard manufacturer's support page. For example:
Download the appropriate driver for your motherboard model and follow the installation instructions.
3. Install the Driver:
After downloading the driver, follow these steps to install it:
- Run the driver setup file (it should be an
.exe
file).
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.
- If prompted, restart your computer to complete the installation.
4. Verify the Installation:
After installation, you can check if the driver is properly installed by:
- Opening Device Manager (
Win + X
> Device Manager).
- Expanding the Network adapters section.
- Your Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller should now appear without a warning icon (yellow triangle).
Troubleshooting:
-
If the driver isn't working properly, try uninstalling and reinstalling it.
- In Device Manager, right-click the Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your computer, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
-
If you continue to experience issues, visit the Realtek support page or consult your motherboard's support for additional troubleshooting tips.
