The is a driver for the SPI Flash Controller found in Intel chipsets, primarily used in the Intel Platform Controller Hub (PCH). The SPI Flash Controller interfaces with a system's firmware storage (typically a BIOS or UEFI chip
This driver is essential for proper communication between Windows and the hardware that manages firmware. If the driver is missing or outdated, your system may encounter issues with firmware management or BIOS updates, and you may see the "Unknown device" or "This device cannot start" error in Device Manager.
Option 1: Automatically Through Windows Update

Open Device Manager:
- Press
Win + X
and select Device Manager from the menu.

Locate the Device:
- Look for the under System Devices or as an Unknown Device in Device Manager (if the driver isn't installed).

Update Driver:
- Right-click on the entry.
- Choose Update Driver from the context menu.
- Select Search automatically for updated driver software. Windows will try to find and install the driver from its database or online.
Option 2: Manually Install the Driver

Download the Driver:

Download and Extract:
- Download the appropriate driver for your system and extract the files if they come in a compressed archive (e.g., ZIP file).

Install the Driver:
- Inside the extracted folder, find Setup.exe or Install.exe, and double-click to start the installation process.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Restart Your Computer:
- After the installation completes, restart your computer to apply the changes.
Option 3: Using Intel Driver & Support Assistant (DSA)

Run Intel DSA:
- Launch the tool and allow it to scan your system for missing or outdated drivers.

Install the Driver:
- The Intel DSA will automatically detect and recommend the necessary drivers, including the driver. Follow the prompts to install the updates.
Option 4: From the Manufacturer's Support Site (if applicable)
If your computer or motherboard came with a driver CD or if you have a support portal for your system, you can manually download and install the driver from there.
Troubleshooting:
- If the driver installation fails or you continue to see an error in Device Manager, ensure that your Windows OS is up to date, as some driver issues may be resolved through system updates.
- Try uninstalling the device in Device Manager and then reinstalling the driver.
- Make sure that you have downloaded the correct version of the driver for your system's chipset or motherboard model.
